When Did I first Know I was an Artists?

Well, it actually began about 15 years ago one winter when it started getting dark at 5:00pm.

I came home from work where that day I had decided- no more TV shows- and I went to a drawer and pulled out a set of tiny paint tubes I have had for, well forever. In anticipation I had brought a piece of Oak wood home from work (I owned custom cabinet shop- so wood was plentiful).  I looked around. I saw a statue of a lady I had- there was my subject. I sat down at the kitchen table with brushes, and my tiny tubes.

Squeezing enough paint from the tiny tubes to cover the wood seemed difficult- but I Carried on and brush strokes slowly became my first painting.

I sat back- I was pleased- not too shabby I thought.

I later made her a wood stand and she sat in a corner of my living room.

Several weeks later a friend came over and noticed her- she loved her, so much so in fact, that she asked if she could buy her.  I was stunned, surprised and pleased. Of course and I set the exorbitant price of $20. My lady had a new home!!

About a month later my friend invited me over- “bring your paints”, she said. I was a bit surprised at this. She then told me that she too was a painter, I had no idea. When I arrived she showed me her works, Okay, she wasn’t “just” a painter, she was an amazing painter.  So together we got out our supplies and started to work.

As soon as started squeezing paint out of my tiny tubes, she began to laugh and questioned what I was doing, “Painting, of course”, I replied.  Her laughing grew. “You do know those are watercolor paints and you are using them right out of the tube-like acrylic paints.  I had a strange look on my face. “What are acrylics?” I asked.

And thus began my journey as an acrylic painter.
